  *** About the Album
  Based on texts taken from the book “Akashic Diaries – Detroit Degree Zero and Other Crisis Writings” (published by Europia Productions at the end of April 2023, in e-book and paper format) commissioned to Biba Sheikh at the start of the Covid 19 lockdown in April 2020 (in the framework of the “No Lockdown Art” initiative initiated by Transcultures – Belgium and the European Pepinieres of Creation), Paradise Now (here in close collaboration with the sound architect Didié Nietzsche) asked the author/performer to send him texts read at her home near Detroit, Michigan.
  
  From these raw recordings, these sonopoetic and cinematic pieces have been developed, letting the text's meaning and musicality unfold. Paradise Now and didié Nietzsche sended sounds to each other by the Internet to gradually build this album of sonopoetic correspondence before being able to work a few days in face-to-face residency at the Transonic Lab/Transcultures (Belgium) in 2022 and early 2023.
  
  “Akashic Diaries”, which is part of a hybrid publication project, is as much an invitation to reading as to engaged listening, and also its autonomy.

  *** A propos de l’album
  
  A partir de textes extraits du livre “Akashic Diaries – Detroit Degree Zero and Other Crisis Writings” (publié par Europia Productions fin avril 2023, en format e-book et papier) commandé à Biba Sheikh au début du premier confinement du au Covid 19 en avril 2020 (dans le cadre de l’initiative No Lockdown Art initié par Transcultures – Belgique et les Pépinières européennes de Création), Paradise Now (ici en étroite collaboration avec l’artiste sonore didié Nietzsche) a demandé à l’autrice/performeuse de lui envoyer des textes lus chez elle aux environs de Detroit au Michigan.
  
  A partir de ceux-ci, ont été développés ces pièces sonopoétiques et cinématiques qui laissent le texte se déployer, Paradise Now et didié Nietzsche s’envoyant eux aussi des sons à distance pour construire petit à petit cet album de correspondance sonopoétique avant de pouvoir se retrouver quelques jours en résidence présentielle au Transonic Lab de Transcultures (Belgique) en 2022 et début 2023. Akashic Diaries qui fait partie d’un projet de publication hybride est autant une invitation à la lecture qu’à l’écoute engagée, et a également son autonomie.

  These burning/moving texts are left raw, and are poetic fragments, and sketches, nourished by the visions and experiences of Biba Sheikh, nomadic American writer and artist of Lebanese origin, living now in Detroit.
  
  This ‘akashic journal’ (from the Sanskrit, ‘Akasha’ – the unwritten history, the hidden meaning, the psychic keep) began during the lockdown of 2020. However, the texts within these pages bridge into various poetic entries and styles, written sometimes from the shocking events (including the murder of Georges Floyd) which divided American society and stunned the world. Some entries are meant as acts of healing.
  The book also has a section of some older powerful writings, between fragmentation of being and possible resilience.
  
  Philippe Franck, cultural critic, director of Intermedia Centre Transcultures in Belgium and contemporary arts network Pépinières européennes de Création commissioned this book in the framework of the “No Lockdown Art” initiative (to support artists during the Covid-19 pandemic related lockdown). He wrote the introduction of the book to put these ‘crisis writings’ into this very particular context.
  Roger Hallam, activist, founder of “Extinction Rebellion” climate action and “Burning Pink” anti-political party wrote the foreword.

  Ce journal akashic (du sanskrit, Akasha - l'histoire non écrite, le sens caché, le donjon psychique) a commencé pendant le confinement de 2020. Cependant, les textes de ces pages font le pont entre diverses entrées et styles poétiques, écrits parfois à partir des événements traumatisants (dont le meurtre de Georges Floyd) qui a divisé la société américaine et stupéfié le monde. Certaines entrées sont conçues comme des actes de guérison. Le livre contient également une section de certains écrits plus anciens, entre fragmentation de l'être et possible résilience.
  
  Philippe Franck, critique culturel, directeur du Centre Intermédiatique Transcultures en Belgique et du réseau d'art contemporain Pépinières européennes de Création a commandé ce livre dans le cadre de l'initiative "No Lockdown Art" (soutenant des projets artistiques pendant la période de confinement dû à la pandémie).
