about

“The studio where I compose and work is located in Saint Maure (in the 11th district) street one of the longest streets in Paris, where the largest number of bars and restaurants are concentrated at M2. The pandemic hit the neighbourhood economy hard and saw the curfew empty and lower the curtain on all drinking establishments.
I decided to take this invitation, to go out and record the reopening performed in stages. Life resuming its course in a mixture of carefree and conviviality between two confinements. Introduced by words in Spanish by a researcher translating the discoveries of Philippe Descola on the incantations sung by the Achuars (one of the last groups of Jivaro Indians from the Amazon). These evocations are called ‘anent’, which comes from ‘enentai’, the heart: they are speeches of the heart, speeches of the soul, sung mentally, or whispered, but whose lyrics are difficult to distinguish. These are injunctions addressed to parents or a distant spouse. We could imagine the surrounding hubbub as invocations to all our loved ones who have suffered from this pandemic by far.” J. Poret

Essentially part of a visual and sonic practice at the crossroads of electroacoustics and the musical culture ‘of the - so-called - margins’, Jérôme Poret (Fr - aka Jérôme Poret) apprehends architecture and exhibition as amplifying and emitting structures affecting their social environment and artistic. He has created and runs the phonographic micro-label Labelle69.
